SUMMARY:Practicing Socioculturally Attuned Couples Therapy
DESCRIPTION:Expanding attunement beyond the couple to include culture\, power\, and lived experience.\n\n\nPracticing Socioculturally Attuned Couples Therapy\n \nCEUsCertificate of Attendance: 3 hours**Counts towards CEUs for AzBBHE.** \nAbstract \nEmotionally Focused Therapy invites clinicians to attune closely to emotion and attachment within the couple system. Yet couples never exist in a vacuum. Culture\, social identities\, social location\, and sociopolitical contexts shape partner relational power processes\, attachment experiences\, and clients’ relational realities. \nThis AZEFT community talk will explore what it means to practice socioculturally attuned couple therapy from a socioemotional relational therapy (SERT) framework/lens. Participants will reflect on how patterns in the larger societal context influence the problems that are reenacted in intimate relationships. \nThis workshop will use a clinical case to illustrate how sociocultural attunement to emotion can help partners develop awareness of the larger context influences in their lives and shift towards mutually supportive partnerships as a part of their therapeutic healing. Through this case discussion\, participants will learn practical ways to integrate sociocultural attunement into their clinical practice\, particularly within the use of the EFT model. \nKEY LEARNING OBJECTIVES: \n1. Discuss how sociocultural context (e.g.\, race\, gender\, faith\, immigration status\, socioeconomic location) shapes relational power processes and emotional experience in couple therapy. \n2. Identify ways that power\, privilege\, and marginalization may show up within couple dynamics and EFT interactional cycles. \n3. Identify how sociocultural attunement can be used to support an attachment-focused frame. \n4. Differentiate between sociocultural attunement and cultural competence. \n \nABOUT THE SPEAKERLana Kim received her PhD from the Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program at Loma Linda University with a concentration in medical family therapy. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and an AAMFT and OBLPCT approved supervisor in Oregon. Dr. Kim is an Associate Professor and the Program Director for the Marriage\, Couple\, and Family Therapy program at Lewis & Clark College. Her areas of expertise include culture and cultural identity\, gender\, social constructionist and contextual approaches\, couples therapy\, and parent-child relationships. \nCancellation / Refund Policy: In the event that you have paid for an upcoming event but are not able to attend\, you may request a refund up to 30 days prior to the event. SUMMARY:From Grief to Connection: Integrating EFIT Processing into EFT Couples Work
DESCRIPTION:Grief work\, emotional deepening\, and the integration of individual work within couple therapy\n\n\nPresentation Title \nFrom Grief to Connection: Integrating EFIT Processing into EFT Couples Work \n\nTopic: Grief work\, emotional deepening\, and the integration of individual work within couple therapy\nFormat: Experiential and practical\, with clinical video demonstration and interactive discussion\n\nCEUsCertificate of Attendance: 3 hours**Counts towards CEUs for AzBBHE.** \nAbstract \nThis workshop brings together two central EFT themes: the power of emotionally focused individual work within couple sessions\, and the healing journey of grief. \nWe will explore how focusing on one partner’s emotional process—even when the content is not explicitly relational—can lead to renewed connection within the couple. Drawing from a single clinical session\, we will follow the therapist’s use of grief work to facilitate emotional deepening and relational movement. \nThe workshop begins with a brief theoretical overview of EFT approaches to grief and emotional blocks. It then transitions into a clinically grounded learning experience through guided viewing of three video segments from one couple therapy session: \n\nSupporting a client struggling to access grief and overwhelmed by anxiety\nThe turning point—touching the core pain and reconnecting with the lost loved one\nRe-integrating the individual work into the couple frame\, leading to a powerful moment of partner responsiveness and healing\n\nThis format allows participants to learn by observing real-time interventions and clinical reflections. Practice\, and participate actively in a Q&A discussion. \nDesigned for both beginning and experienced EFT therapists\, the workshop offers hands-on tools for grief work\, emotional deepening\, and navigating common therapeutic blocks in emotionally charged processes. \nThis workshop was delivered with great success at the EFT conference in Israel\, and ideas from it were also presented on The Leading Edge podcast (Episode 118) hosted by James Hawkins and Ryan Rana. \nLearning Objectives \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe how emotionally focused individual work can be integrated into EFT couple sessions\nApply EFT interventions for grief work\, including accessing emotion and reconnecting with the lost attachment figure\nIdentify and address emotional blocks (e.g.\, anxiety\, numbness) that often arise in grief processing\n\nContent Level \nBeginner to Advanced \n \nPresenter Bio \nDr. Tal Padeh is a licensed clinical psychologist and certified EFT therapist\, supervisor\, and trainer. She is a founding member and current leader of the EFT Israel Center. Dr. Padeh brings extensive experience in individual\, couple\, and family therapy\, helping clients strengthen emotional bonds and resolve relational challenges. She teaches EFT\, supervises therapists\, and leads national professional initiatives. Her full-time practice is based in Jerusalem and online. In addition to EFT\, she has training in AEDP\, Schema Therapy\, and psychoanalytic approaches. Dr. Padeh has led projects expanding EFT into trauma work and public mental health. \nCancellation / Refund Policy: In the event that you have paid for an upcoming event but are not able to attend\, you may request a refund up to 30 days prior to the event. Refund requests must be received in writing via email to: communityworkshops@azeft.com. SUMMARY:It’s Not Business — It’s All Clinical: An EFT approach to Client Engagement
DESCRIPTION:An EFT-informed approach to navigating policies\, boundaries\, & tough client conversations to boost engagement & retention.\n\n\nCEUsCertificate of Attendance: 3 hours**Counts towards CEUs for AzBBHE.** \nABSTRACT \nAlthough often labeled as “business” topics\, conversations about policies\, boundaries\, session cadence\, and client follow-through are inherently relational and clinical. They can be emotionally charged for both therapists and clients and can significantly influence a client’s engagement in therapy\, sometimes contributing to premature termination. This workshop invites EFT therapists to expand their clinical perspective by viewing client engagement as a bidirectional\, emotionally informed process that is influenced beyond the therapy room. \nParticipants will increase comfort and confidence in navigating these conversations – including late cancellations\, session frequency\, and signs of disengagement – by recognizing their own internal emotional responses and applying engagement-focused\, EFT-informed strategies. Grounded in EFT principles\, the workshop emphasizes internal awareness\, clarifying expectations\, and relational responsiveness\, supporting therapists in approaching these conversations with clarity\, confidence\, and clinical intentionality\, while fostering professional longevity and greater enjoyment in their work. \nLearning Objectives\nBy the end of this presentation\, participants will be able to: \n\nDifferentiate client engagement from therapeutic alliance and identify at least three behavioral\, relational\, and emotional indicators of early client disengagement across the full therapy experience (e.g.\, scheduling behavior\, cancellations\, responsiveness\, affective shifts).\nRecognize and articulate your own internal emotional responses\, beliefs\, and self-protective strategies that arise during business-related interactions with clients (late cancellations\, session frequency\, etc)\, and understand how these internal processes influence therapist responses and their client’s level of engagement.\nApply core EFT principles (e.g.\, tracking affect\, transparency\, curiosity\, responsiveness to rupture) to business and boundary conversations in order to reframe these interactions as clinical processes that support therapist congruence\, sustained client engagement\, and client retention.\n\nContent Level \nBeginner to Advanced \nPresenter Bio \nLaura Cross\, MS\, LMFT\, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Denver\, Colorado\, and the Founder of the Individual and Relationship Therapy Center. She is a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist and Supervisor and an AAMFT-Approved Supervisor\, with extensive experience helping therapists and clients alike deepen emotional connection and engagement in clinical practice. Prior to her clinical career\, Laura spent 22 years in sales and marketing\, where she learned the importance of relational engagement and authentic communication—skills she now integrates into her training and supervision work. After completing her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy\, she opened her private practice in Denver in 2013\, which has since grown into a thriving group practice focused on evidence-based\, attachment-informed care. \nLaura is passionate about helping therapists reframe business-related conversations as clinically meaningful moments that strengthen client engagement\, reduce premature termination\, and support therapist congruence and professional longevity. Her work emphasizes internal awareness and relational leadership\, guiding therapists to approach challenging conversations—often labeled as “business” topics—as opportunities to deepen therapeutic connection and support client retention. \nCancellation / Refund Policy: In the event that you have paid for an upcoming event but are not able to attend\, you may request a refund up to 30 days prior to the event. Refund requests must be received in writing via email to: communityworkshops@azeft.com.
